IN A MAGICAL CORNER OF THE CITY

Strategically located right in the very heart of the historical Athens down-town, AthensWas will become your starting point for your very own Athenian experience:

  • 400m from the Acropolis
  • 300m from the Acropolis Museum
  • Rooftop Bar Restaurant with the most clear Acropolis view
  • 200m away from the Acropolis Metro Station
  • 300m away from Odeon of Herodes Theatre
  • 1km from the Constitution square

AthensWas is the only hotel in its class situated on the best-known and most beautiful pedestrian walkway in Athens: Dionysiou Areopagitou street. The walkway skirts the sacred rock of the Acropolis and the Parthenon, the city’s most important and awe-inspiring classical monument and the emblem of Athens since antiquity. It also connects the New Acropolis Museum, recognized internationally as one of the most beautiful and fascinating museums in the world, with the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, Athens’ superb Roman-era theatre, which hosts concerts, operas and theatrical performances every summer, gracing the Athens Festival with its splendid aura.

THE POWER OF TIME

While Dionysiou Areopagitou is home to a number of fine and beautiful monuments, it never weighs down those that walk its length with a sense of ‘monumentality’. Instead, it remains abuzz with the vivacity of a multifaceted city and architecture ranging from the modernist apartment blocks of the mid Twenties to the marvelous 19th-century neoclassical buildings that stand alongside them and from the ultra-contemporary Acropolis museum to the impressive antiquities themselves. The nonchalant way in which the varied styles from different eras intermingle is clear proof, if any is needed, that modern Athens is very much at home with its impressive and impressively long past. But that’s something you will discover for yourself as you stroll through Athens’ heart, enjoying a sensation you can experience in only very few spots around the world: after all, as archaeologists inform us, Dionysiou Areopagitou street, on which AthensWas stands, has been inhabited for three millennia.
